Nominations Open for the 2026-2029 OPMA Board of Directors

2026-2029 Board of Directors Nominations

OPMA is accepting applications for potential candidates to serve on its Board of Directors. The nominations process will look somewhat different this year, with the nominations being managed by the OPMA’s Nominating Committee. As previously reported, work to develop this Committee and the supporting policies and processes began in 2024.

The Nominating Committee will evaluate nominees to ensure diversity of gender as well as ensuring they have competencies needed on the board. It is important to note that not all nominees may not be included on the voting slate.

For further background on the Nominating Committee and the role of the Board and Governance Committee in the nominations process, you can consult the OPMA Nominating Committee Terms of Reference.

There are currently two positions open on the OPMA Board of Directors. The application process will close on February 9th at 5:00 PM. The OPMA Board of Directors are volunteers from diverse professional backgrounds who are elected for three-year terms to manage the affairs of the Board in accordance with the by-laws.

To be considered, all potential candidates must be OPMA members in good standing, meet the criteria for participation and be active contributors to OPMA and the sector in which they work. OPMA leadership welcomes diversity on their Board and encourages all qualified candidates from across the OPMA membership to apply.

Directors are:

  • accountable for the Association’s performance in relation to its mission and strategic objectives, and for the effective stewardship of finances and human resources;
  • required to attend board meetings four times per year and board committee meetings as required for an approximate time commitment of 4 hours per quarter. Officer roles may require a greater time commitment; and
  • expected to abide by the OPMA Board of Directors Code of Conduct and OPMA by-laws.

The OPMA Board is a skills-based Board elected by the OPMA membership. Board members are not expected to have a high level of skills and experience in all Board competencies. Each Director brings a different level of skill in each competency so the Board as a whole has skills and experience across all 12 competencies. Membership of the OPMA Board is an opportunity to develop skills in these competencies through experience on Board Committees and Board training.

In 2026, we have two positions open. In particular, the Board is seeking nominations from individuals with skills and experience in (in no particular order): Corporate Legal and Finance. The Governance Committee is actively working to improve Board diversity and encourage people from across the OPMA membership to apply.

The OPMA provides an equal opportunity to all persons without discrimination based on race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, record of offences, marital status, family status or disability.

If you are interested in nominating someone for the Board, the requirements are listed on the 2026 Nomination Form (Download and save the form on your desktop). When the form has been completed, please send it to dee@theopma.ca.
