The OPMA thanks you for requesting Canada’s Produce Mascot. We are pleased to be able to ship Freggie all over Canada to promote fruit and vegetables. In order to continue doing so we have to make sure our mascot is kept in good condition.

    TO ENSURE ALL AROUND SUCCESS

If you follow the Dos and Donts which will be included with the shipment of Freggie, it will help in ensuring Freggie is not damaged as well as having an overall successful event.

    VERIFY HE’S ALL THERE

Also included in the shipment is a costume checklist of all of the costume being shipped. We ask that you use this checklist to ensure that the complete costume comes back to us. Kindly ship Freggie back to us exactly the way he is shipped to you.

On occasion we have encountered problems with Freggie being shipped improperly, which have resulted in damage to the costume. It is very expensive to repair the mascot and while he is being repaired he won’t be able to attend any functions. Regrettably, if any damages do occur during the time Freggie is rented, the person who has requested him will be held responsible for all damages.

I agree that I will be held responsible for any damaged or missing parts of Freggie the Produce Mascot. I also understand that the use of Freggie is for the express purpose of promoting the consumption of fresh produce. Freggie the Produce Mascot is not to be used to endorse or appear to endorse products or services without prior approval of the OPMA.

  • Step 3: How to Handle Freggie

    Do's

    • Your character has a fan unit, remember to check that the batteries are still charged. When not in use remember to turn the fan off to extend the life of the batteries as much as possible
    • Make sure that the helmet strap is adjusted to fit your head properly.
    • Do exaggerate your movements inside the costume. Practicing in front of a mirror helps to get into character and develop his or her personality.
    • Do have fun with the character. Always keep his or her personality in mind while in public.
    • Be friendly, upbeat and energetic.
    • Remember to stay “IN CHARACTER”. You represent a product, corporation or organization.
    • Do have an assistant or escort help you dress and interact with the public.
    • Do take frequent breaks. Character costumes are by nature hot and somewhat confining. It is important to wear the costume for short periods of time. (e.g., some people will wear the costume for 20 minutes, while others can wear it longer. It is important to drink plenty of water or other liquids to replace easily depleted body fluids.
    • Do wear a clean, dry t-shirt and shorts inside the costume.
    • The Freggie costume must be worn in its entirety

    Dont’s

    • Don’t speak while in the costume.
    • Don’t take the head off in public. Go to a resting area to take a break, away from the public.
Children love this character and to see him or her minus a head spoils the magic.
    • Don’t eat or drink while in public. Always eat in your designated rest area during your break time.
    • Don’t smoke in the costume.
    • Never make any movement quickly toward little children as it may frighten them.
    • Don’t pick up children. Lack of mobility makes this extremely dangerous.
    • Don’t be abrupt with children – they will not be expecting it.
    • Don’t be lewd or display inappropriate behavior.

    Important Reminder

The character represents a considerable investment by your organization. The purpose of a walking character is to stimulate goodwill and generate more business. It is necessary that the costume is clean, neat and that the character be friendly and courteous at all times.
