OPMA Announces two new Board Members

Toronto, ON – September 9, 2020 – The Ontario Produce Marketing Association (OPMA) announces the appointment of two new board members who will serve a three-year term from 2020 to 2023.

The Annual General Meeting and election of new board members of the OPMA was held on September 2, 2020, sponsored by Loblaws and Metro. At the meeting, two directors stepped down from the OPMA board in line with the end of their term: Steve Bamford of Fresh Advancements and Joe Dutchyn of Niagara Vineyard and Orchard Corp. “I thank them both for their many years of voluntary service to the OPMA, including as board Chairs,” said Houman Madani, OPMA Chair, Metro Ontario Inc. “They are both strong supporters of the OPMA and I look forward to their continued involvement in our association.”

Joining the OPMA board are Fiona McLean, from Del Fresco Produce and Michael Wexler, from Oppy, the Oppenheimer Group.

Fiona McLean is the marketing manager at Del Fresco Produce and takes an active role in the industry. She is a current Director of the Berry Growers of Ontario and sits on committees for the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers, CPMA and PMA. She has strong strategy development and risk management experience as well as solid leadership and human resources skills through her role at Del Fresco Produce. Prior to working there, she held a position at OGVG where she harnessed her government relations skills by taking an active role in advocacy with provincial and federal members of parliament. Fiona has sat on the OPMA Member Advisory Group Committee for two years where her perspective was greatly valued.

Michael Wexler is a sales representative at Oppy. Michael has been a part of the produce industry his entire life thanks to his involvement in his parents’ wholesale distribution business. In his professional career, Michael has over nine years of experience in the fruit and vegetable sector. Michael has harnessed his strategic development and management skills through his professional and educational experience. He has established a strong network in the industry and is a dynamic leader. Michael has also served on the OPMA Member Advisory Group Committee and has a keen understanding of the association and the direction it is headed in.

“We are pleased to welcome Fiona and Michael to the board,” said Madani. “They join at an exciting time as we work towards accomplishing the goals and objectives set forth in our 2020 – 2023 strategic plan. Their experience and skills will complement those of our current directors, creating a stronger association.”
