On April 1, the Federal Government implemented a 23% carbon tax hike. This carbon tax increase poses significant challenges for our farmers, making it increasingly difficult for them to carry out the vital work of feeding Canadian families. In collaboration with several allied industry organizations, the OPMA is actively advocating for immediate action from the Federal government to pause this tax hike.
What are we doing?
1) Signed a joint letter with OMAFRA and several other industry organizations calling on the Federal Government to immediately pause the 23 per cent carbon tax hike.
2) OPMA President, Rebecca Harris attended Wednesday’s press conference along with several industry representatives and members of the provincial government including Premier Ford and Minister Lisa Thompson. You can watch the press conference here.
What can you do?
We urge all our members to join us in amplifying this message by reaching out to your local Members of Parliament (MPs) and Provincial Members of Parliament (MPPs). By sharing the impact of this tax hike on your operations and the broader agricultural community, we can collectively advocate for a pause in its implementation. Copies of the letter can be found in English and French.
